should have gone right down to Dr. Cabot to be molded in his hand to almost any
shape. But as it was I brushed past, ran into my room, and locked my door. Oh,
what makes me act so! I hate myself for it, I don't want to do it!”
Katy's words of struggle are similar to those of the apostle Paul when he said, “For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate.” Romans 7:15
We will look at powerful chapters from the book of Romans. This is just a small taste of what we have in Christ.. Kistner highlights the main theme we are looking at.

A. Read Romans 6
List the facts you learn about Christ in each of the following verses.
Rom. 6:4, 9, 10, 23
List the facts you learn about yourself as a believer in each of the following verses:
Rom. 6:2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19a, 20, 22
This doctrine we looked at is sometimes called “our union with Christ.” It is the FACT that Katy by FAITH must stay focused on because it is the only sure basis for fighting sin.
Some Christians see the process of becoming Christ like a simple matter of “Letting go and letting God.” As Katy said of Amelia: “She says it is so easy to be a Christian!”
Note Paul's commands in the following verses on this, “Let go – let God” Perspective.
Rom. 6:11, 12, 13, 19
We are in a war...this war is against our own flesh that we love so much. Let's see from Romans 7 why we still battle with sin despite our union with Christ.
Rom. 7:1-3 What is the point of Paul's illustration?
How does Rom. 7:4-6 restate the doctrine that we examined in Romans 6? In these verses Paul adds the purpose for our union with Christ. What is it?
How doesRom. 7:7-12 explain why Katy might have struggled with sin more than some girls from other families?
Do you find that the more you know of God's requirements, the more you realize how far short you fall? What then does Paul say is the purpose of the law? (Rom. 7:7-8, 7:13)
Paul describes his frustrations with the flesh (the sinful nature) vividly in Rom. 7:14-20. Can you relate? Why do we keep sinning even though we desire to please God? (Rom. 7:21-23)
Katy's dilemma then- and Paul's- and ours as well- is that the flesh is still alive and well, and we often choose to give in to it. Where then lies our hope?
Rom. 8: 1-17
Why is there no condemnation for us who are in Christ? (8:2)
How did Christ meet the requirements of the law that we could never meet ourselves? (8:3-4)
Contrast life in the flesh to life in the spirit in the following verses.

List FACTS about yourself if the Spirit of God lives in you.

What must be our response to the FACTS in the above verses (see Rom. 8:13)
Add this aggressive command to those we read in Rom. 6:11-13,19. Then come back to the marvelous FACTS about yourself in Rom. 8:14-17. List those FACTS below.
